On 13 June 2024, the CJEU ruled in case C-563/22 regarding Palestinian refugees registered with UNRWA. This landmark decision reached in the case of a young mother and her daughter from Gaza impacts on all Palestinian refugees in the European Union. If UNRWA’s assistance ceases, applicants should automatically receive refugee status under EU law. The ruling acknowledges the severe deterioration of conditions in Gaza and UNRWA’s diminished capacity to help.
